Fewer impulse buys. More things that fit your actual life.
Our review library is coming soon. In the meantime, use this checklist to compare options without the pressure to buy everything.
Start with the job it needs to do
- What everyday problem would this solve, and how often would I use it?
- Does it fit our living space, storage, travel, and laundry routine?
- Can I try it, borrow it, or wait until I know I need it?
Compare the total cost
- Record the current price and what is actually included.
- Check whether accessories, replacement parts, batteries, or subscriptions add cost.
- Read the return window, warranty details, and exclusions directly from the seller or manufacturer.
- Compare similar condition and included parts when considering a used item.
Look beyond the star rating
- Look for specific observations: size, weight, cleaning, durability, and ease of use.
- Check which model or version a review covers and when it was written.
- Notice whether the reviewer bought the item, received it free, or has an affiliate relationship.
- Read several experiences. One family’s favorite may not suit your needs.
Check the original information
Read manufacturer instructions and check the exact model in the CPSC recall database. For car seats, use NHTSA’s official information.
What future First Time Mamas reviews should tell you
We plan to identify what was evaluated, how it was evaluated, who it may suit, practical drawbacks, and any commercial relationship. A review should help you decide whether something fits your family, including when the answer is to skip it.
